First

I would say shop around - DO NOT PICK THE FIRST DEAL  THAT SOUNDS GOOD. More than likely it is NOT the best deal out there.

 

Second

Find out exactly how much it costs to print the books and if they print per order or if you get books to inventory (keep on hand).

 

Third

Don't expect a publisher to actively promote your book. YOU need to promote your book.

 

Overall, it is a less expensive project and more rewarding if you do as much as you can yourself.  There are a ton of publishers that will help you self publish your book but it will COST you dearly.  On average (estimate) it should cost you no more than 5.00 per book for a standard 125 page book.  Any more than that and I would be concerned.
